“Father To Son: A Coming and A Going”

From the moment of a son’s birth, a journey begins,
Eventually a father left behind, a son preparing to launch,
A brief bitter-sweet-journey, one stays the other leaves!
Preparing a son for his place in the world is an act of fathering,
Indeed a daunting task and at times sprinkled with awkward moments,
Nonetheless, commitment and love somehow makes fathering work!
Eventually, silently, change cannot be ignored, a journey awaits,
An emerging-maturing emotional-social climate begins to blossom,
A behavioral independence is beginning to birth,
A signal to fathers that a time to let go is nearing!
Teenage-time an awesome revelation that independence is manifesting,
Unrelenting management of another is not a father’s purpose,
Understand that a son has a natural need of expression by Divine design!
Off to the unknown progeny flies to lofty visions and goals,
A father, looking back, suddenly realizes that fathering is…
A bitter-sweet journey, one staying the other leaving,
A time for appreciating and realizing that fathers were once sons,
Gracefully accepting the fact that life includes coming and going!
