On-going reassurance is vital for growth and development of all children and youth!
Everyone likes encouragement and praise. In addition, every great teaching day treat yourself to encouragement and praise to enable you to sustain being a great teacher for all your students! I also suggest keeping some chocolate handy and experience the physical uplift of self-reward! That is, at the end of a great day, a little nip of good quality 72% chocolate adds a physical uplift sensation. It’s practical and it works, just don’t overdo it.?
Insecurity is a natural characteristic of many children and youths: Many children and youths have not yet acquired the maturity and experience to deal with their doubts, needs and wants. That is where great teachers excel over other teachers who cannot or will not consider creating and practicing collaborative “positive response” behaviors that great teachers practice day by day. You may wish to add more collaborative strategies to the list from your own experience in working with children and youth.
You’ll also find that you cannot keep the world’s problems from crossing the transom into your classroom. Therefore, responding positively to ALL behaviors strengthens the power of your character to be a great teacher to all your students! Basically, great teachers teach by the positive power of their character.
Good luck as you adopt, adapt and adjust your teaching behaviors to support the needs of the students that you are serving at the moment and during the remainder of your career in the classroom.
Good Luck and best regards, Bob Barta, retired teacher and writer of positive response practical poetry for young and old.
