Exploring The Values of Patience
Patience is not a passive art. Patience requires conscious restraint, that is, self control enough to keep an open mind to appreciate the possibilities of success, failure and misfortune while working to achieve the goal or task as desired.
For example, the patient sculptor is challenged with a stumbling block; the media from which he plans to carve a desired image. When challenged with this monumental task the sculptor patiently pauses and contemplates the possibilities for a positive result.
Sculpting is a bit by bit, chip by chip process that strengthens the artists power of patience over the stumbling blocks of the process. The successful artist realizes that success only happens with a reasonable plan that engages the art of patience until success is attained.
With a plan, a chisel, a hammer and patience, the sculptor proceeds, a chip at a time, toward converting a stumbling block into a stepping stone called achievement. Minute by minute, chip by chip, the patience of the artist prevails and overcomes the once daunting task.
With each chip, the stumbling block yields and succumbs to the artist’s patience, diligence and skill. Soon enough a stepping stone, the original plan, the image, begins to stubbornly reveal itself.
For the sculptor, the practice of patience results in peace of mind and the joy of the ability to maintain self-control; to calmly enjoy with pride, the experience of self-confidence that results from the courage to patiently persist and persevere to claim the rewards of the art of patience.
In summary, patience is not a passive art. Achievement and success require a reasonable plan that engages the art of patience until a desired result is attained. Patience is enabled by constantly adjusting, adapting and adopting and inventing strategies that enable you to achieve.
Best of luck as you sustain your efforts with the art of patience.
