Choosing To Live With Joy
*The intent of this poem is to encourage clearing your mind of harmful thoughts such as jealousy, hate, anger, prejudice, etc. and day by day, replace them with thoughts that bring you joy to share with others.
Choosing To Live With Joy
Day by day you have a choice,
You live by the quality of your conscious and your inner voice.
As time goes by, carefully choose what you mostly think,
Every thought is an intention, hope or reason for something.
Realize that you have two minds, conscious and unconscious,
Either can harbor thoughts of misery or thoughts of joy.
What you mostly keep on your mind is what you get,
That is something on which you can bet!
It is best to heed what can bring you joy,
Those are the things that float you like a buoy.
The thoughts that you harbor in your thinking space,
Sets the tempo of your daily pace.
Day by day you have a choice,
You live by the quality of your inner voice.

Part A: Author’s Summary: Some thoughts about the meanings of the stanzas:
1. As time goes by, take good care of your mind, by consistently harboring joyful thoughts day by day.
2. The quality of your life is directly related to the quality of your thoughts.
3. Choosing positive thoughts helps you control and manage both your conscious and your unconscious moods and mental processes.
4. The thoughts you mostly concentrate on are what controls the direction and condition of your life.
5. Day by day you have the power to choose the kinds of thoughts that can bring you joy or misery. Your miserable thoughts affect your behavior and that can also affect others negatively.
6. What you harbor in your mind and mostly think about governs the quality of your life. Choose well, Good luck.
Part B: Author’s Challenge: Re-read and write your own interpretation of the stanzas to add value to the poem.
Part C: Assignment: Writing out your intentions adds power for achievement. 1. Write a list of past fun things you used to like to do. 2. Write a list of current fun things you could add to your day. 3. Write a list of fun things you’d like to explore in the near future.
*When you write an intention, in this case a fun thing to do, you add power and action to what you want. Writing gives you a way to cross out things that don’t work and begs new ways to to regularly add creative fun and joyful “recesses” to your day. You have to commit and practice to reap the benefits of what you want. That’s why writing down your intent or plan is so important; otherwise, it is only a wish. Wishes do not have power for achievement!
