From Beginning To End: Your Life’s Journey and Legacy
The intent of a “legacy” is to show the world what you are worth and to live with purpose.
When you have purpose you have access to contentment, joy and happiness.
Life is like a branch growing on a tree,
Each year adds length and weight to the branch…
Eventually it begins to sag under the burdens of its own weight,
And then a sudden addition of ice and snow causes its release…
It returns to its source, the earth,
Leaving its legacy to nourish new growth,
For new trees that follow!
Your life is like that branch,
You sprout from your source, your mother…
Time passes and you grow and age like that tree branch.
Then, there comes a time,
When the burdens of life…
Impose the burdens of age, wear and worry…
Same as the burdens of that fallen fir tree branch.
And like that over-burdened fir tree branch,
You too shall return to your eternal-infinite source…the earth,
And as the energy in that fir tree branch returns to its source,
For yet another generation of growth…
You too shall leave a legacy,
For the growth of the next generation,
Will it be stumbling blocks…disrespect, greed, hate, etc.
Or stepping stones…love, respect, generosity, etc.?
Envoi: Author’s comments: The author also invites you to either write or think about how this poem is significant to your own legacy. Poems need to be revisited enough so that the message becomes a part of your character, if that’s what you want. Eventually we all shall be leaving a legacy. Will it be stumbling blocks or stepping stones?
